FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
RADIO WAVE TECHNOLOGY
What do I need to do?
There are many reasons why you may require a radio system. The most common reason is for safety and facilities management - which is standard across all industries. Australian standards also require a level of communication system design, based on your orgnisation environment and industry requirements. You may also wish to improve communication effectiveness and efficiency.
What is radio wave technology?
Radio wave technology is also known as 2-way radio. It is the most effective and reliable communication system. This is the reason why emergency service response protocols are always built around radio wave technology.
Why can’t I just use my phone?
A phone is traditionally a 'One-to-One' Communication Device, whereas 2-Way Radios by their nature are 'One-to-Many' - meaning that a group of users on the same channel can all hear or participate in a radio call.
Does the system come as an App?
No, however, applications can enhance a radio system.
What is the security? Can other people tune in?
Most private systems are secure. Some government operations (i.e. defence) are encrypted.
Can I import a radio system myself?
There are Australian Standards for communications equipment - with allowable operating and frequency requirements that need to be adhered to. Which is monitored and enforced by the Australian Communications & Media Authority (ACMA).
What is the back-up system?
Most radio systems have battery back-up, particularly if used for critical communications.
YOUR ORGANISATION
How do I establish KPIs for our organisation?
Industry requirements and organisational policies will help you set aligned KPIs. Essentially you want to ensure your ability to effective communicate with your team for task management, quick response, preventative measures, general improvements.
How will I know what system I require?
Over our 30+ years of designing and building communication systems we have worked with thousands of organisations. Our knowledge, experience and understanding your requirements - is the first step into scoping the design brief. We can always put you in touch with a like-for-like organisation, in respect to your communication needs, if this is something you are interested in.
Will our team be trained on your system?
General operator training is necessary. For more complex systems, we provide system management and control room operator training.
Are there any additional costs I should be aware of?
Recurring government licence fees may apply. We suggest you check this with the ACMA (Australia Communications Media Authority).
Can the system be integrated with our existing systems?
Certain systems can be integrated into BMS solutions or phone networks.
What happens if my equipment breaks down?
Repair processes and maintenance agreements can be tailored to suit your needs. We highly advise that this is addressed up front in the process of designing your system.
How often will we require an upgrade to our system?
Most radio and associated systems are robust in their construction. It is likely that technology will overtake before equipment failure.
OUR SERVICES
What is the benefit of a custom designed system? There are no two environments the same. Having a well designed communication system will not only protect your organisation, but ensure wastage and inefficiencies are non-existent.
What is the cost of designing and building a radio system? The cost is dependent on the coverage size and specific requirements to ensure the system adheres to your organisation and industry standards. For example, wide area systems require boosters and antenna networks. The quantity of radios is determined post system design. There is not a one-size fits all model, as every organisation has specific needs.
How long does it take to build the system? The time required is dependent on the level of complexity of the system and the level of testing post implementation. As an example, a university campus can take anywhere between 2 to 10 weeks.
Can we buy, borrow or lease a system? At Telechnics we can accomodate all three options.
Do you guarantee coverage? 100% coverage can never be guaranteed, however areas of. required coverage within a defined area can be specified. The system can then be tailored to ensure those areas are covered.
Can we voice record? Yes, voice recording features are available in selected radio models.
Is there a dedicated testing period? The majority of systems we design and build require coverage testing and acknowledgement prior to completing the build.
What product brands do you use? We choose selected brands that perform well and come with manufacturer support. This is of the utmost importance, as our reputation rests on our recommendations.
What is the warranty period of the equipment installed? Most hardware operates with at least 12 months warranty.
